Position Overview:
The Phlebotomist draws intravenous blood samples and prepares specimens for analysis by the technologists.
Performs the duties of laboratory clerk when needed.
Maintains a clean and neat work area.
Prepares, distributes, reviews and files results of laboratory testing.
Replaces used supplies as necessary from laboratory stock.
Records and forwards to the data processing department billing information regarding lab test.
Registers outpatient clients prior to draws and analsysis including the registering of dropped off specimens.
Picks up specimens from locations campus wide.
Processes specimens for shipment to other reference labs.
Maintains accurate files of lab reports, records and logs.
Maintains a clean and neat work area.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature.
Job Description:
EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma
Other: Completion of a program of training in Phlebotomy
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
IV Certification
CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
Experience: In a clinical laboratory or medical office setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
To be responsible for the assessment treatment, or care of patients of all ages including neonate, child, adolescent and geriatric.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
The employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior and this information should be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process.
Phlebotomy skills.
Medical terminology, computer skills, typing, customer service skills, and personnel telephone skills.
Oral communication.
Good listener.
Have good communication with patients, doctors, fellow employees.
Be professional.
Look professional.
A working knowledge of laboratory information systems is preferred.

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location.
This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled.
