*SUMMARY:* Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Career Development Coordinator works closely with clients, staff, employers and education/training providers in establishing placement and hiring positions for Scotts Valley Tribal TANF (SVTT) clientele.
The Career Development Coordinator will initiate and maintain a network of employers and job placement opportunities that cover the range of skills, employment availability and interests demonstrated by the SVTT clientele, will coordinate with the specific SVTT service areas’ Adult Schools to establish a working relationship so that SVTT clientele in need may obtain their High School Diploma or GED Certificate, and will assist in the assessment of education and employment goals as appropriate.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* include the following: • Develop, plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of the SVTT program to address the needs of the communities served including, but not limited to: § Adult, vocational and other educational services to develop clients job skills.
§ Job readiness, skill development and job placement.
§ Life skills programs.
• Utilize Tribal TANF program rules and regulations pertaining to employment and education training.
• Engage employers and businesses in training and hiring of SVTT clientele.
• Utilize Labor Market Information Resources (LMI) and other U.
S.
Department of Labor regulations such as WIA (Workforce Investment Act) and WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification).
• Facilitate use of career assessment tools, inventories and career decision making tools.
• Proctor computer aided job search tools.
• Provide financial aid resources and instruction on professional business ethics.
• Evaluate and, when necessary, develop a Family Success Plan or recommend changes to the SVTT client’s current plan.
• Identify and evaluate needs and barriers to employment and develop an employability plan.
• Prioritize and plan effective work activities including developing realistic action plans that include the appropriate people in the decision-making process.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, attention to detail, and ability to follow all established SVTT policies and procedures as well as read, understand, and follow complex rules, regulations, policies, and memos.
• Gain the ability to use and accurately enter data into an automated computer database system.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with employers, outside service providers, SVTT staff, the Tribal community (i.
e.
youth, parents, tribes, schools, other community resources/community organizations) and SVTT clientele including effectively representing the Tribe’s programs in contacts with the public, community organizations, and other government agencies.
• Prepare clear, concise, and accurate records, reports, forms, plans and agreements as directed.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business, Psychology, Social Services, Human Services or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in career/vocational theories, counseling, education, or coordinating employment and job search activities.
