*Certified Medical Assistant* *Job Summary* This position performs routing patient screening, additional technical supportive services, medical clerical duties, and other tasks within scope of practice.
*Job Duties & Responsibilities* * Places patients in examination rooms, performs and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure), obtains the patients’ reason for the clinic visit and basic history information, including known illnesses, known allergies, medications and pertinent social history.
* Records information in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with procedures of the Medical Department.
* Performs only those duties authorized under certification, approved by the Medical Director, immediate supervisor, and other departmental providers.
* Collects (non-invasive) specimens, assists patient with ambulation and transfer, prepares patient for examination, provides patient information and instructions as directed by the provider; cut nails of otherwise healthy patients and performs ear lavage as ordered.
* Follows specific training may perform simple (CLIA waived) laboratory tests, including: withdrawing capillary blood by skin puncture (“finger stick”) and withdrawing blood by venipuncture or administering skin tests, including Mantoux skin tests.
* Follows specific training may perform simple screening tests, including: (obtaining but not interpreting test results for) vision, hearing and electrocardiogram (ECG) testing.
* Follows specific training related to administering medications via different routes or injection methods (e.
g.
, oral, sublingual, topical vaginal, rectal, inhalation, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections).
* Verifies the correct medication and dosage prior to administration, by a licensed provider or immediate supervisor.
* Applies and removes bandages and dressings, orthopedic appliances, removes casts and splints, obtains foot impressions, selects and adjusts crutches, per the provider’s orders.
* Assists supervisor with quality assurance (QA) requirements on a regular basis.
* Attends meetings, workshops and other training to maintain and enhance personal knowledge and skills.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
*Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)* * High school diploma or equivalent.
* California Medical Assistant Certification (CMA), or ability to attain within six (6) months of employment.
* One (1) year experience in an ambulatory clinic or doctor’s office, or related services.
* Current CPR/First Aid certification.
*Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)* * Three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory clinic or doctor’s office, or related services.
* Current Phlebotomy certification.
* Indian Preference applies to all Consolidated Tribal Health Project (CTHP) positions in accordance with CTHP Policy and applicable federal law.
*Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities* * Maintains knowledge of healthcare industry and trends, health promotion, and patient services.
* Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with American Indian/Alaska Native populations.
* Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
* Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws, as well as CTHP policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.
).
* Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

* May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver license or capable of obtaining one; as well as be insurable by CTHP’s company insurance.
* CTHP complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, whereby employees shall not manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess, use, or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.

101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until CTHP has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
* Due to providing healthcare services, employees are subject to an annual TB screen and flu shot, should an employee opt to not take the flu shot they will be required to wear a face mask during flu season.
