00 Annually Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Job Number: 2024-FTFAC-ESL Closing: 2/25/2024 11:59 PM Pacific Location: Ukiah, CA Department: Instruction DESCRIPTION Mendocino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track English as a Second Language instructor to join our friendly, dynamic, and dedicated faculty.
The English as a Second Language department at Mendocino College offers a broad range of both credit and noncredit ESL courses serving over 500 students.
The ESL Program offers beginning through advanced level integrated skills ESL courses focused on the development of reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking skills, in addition to courses focused on conversation and vocational preparedness.
We support students with varied educational goals including improved language skills for new work opportunities, intermediate and advanced noncredit ESL certificate completion, Career Technical Education course and certificate completion, and English language skill development needed for transfer-level college courses.
ESL courses are offered in person and online and at multiple locations, including college center locations in Willits, Lakeport, and Fort Bragg.
The ESL Program offers three noncredit ESL certificates and a transferable writing course for multilingual students that bridges students to Freshman Composition.
The ESL instructor will teach all ESL levels in all teaching modalities.
While this position will work closely with the existing full-time ESL faculty member based in Ukiah, this faculty position will focus on the needs of ESL students studying at Mendocino College center locations, including coordinating the work of the adjunct ESL instructors.
Preference will be given to applicants who can be based at our Coast Center in Fort Bragg, CA.
This position will also focus on the noncredit ESL student population and their transition to other college programs.

The annual teaching load is 510 lecture hours, 680 lab hours, or a combination of the two.
The annual work year includes 164 instructional days and eleven professional development/flex days.

Annual salary offered at $69,512 - $99,727.
Step seven (7) is the maximum step placement based on year for year teaching experience or two years of FTE work experience in the field per step.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The successful candidate will support success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration.
This includes the following duties and/or assignments: TEACHING: Instructs the full range of ESL courses offered in the department, including online, hybrid, and in-person, at any location as assigned; Evaluates and develops curriculum and instructional materials; Conducts classes as included in the schedule of classes; Prepares classroom presentations, student activities, and assignments; Evaluates and provides feedback of students' performance as described in course outlines; Teaches courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the catalog, the course outline, and the schedule of classes; Prepares a level appropriate syllabus for each course and distributes it to students at the first class meeting and/or electronically; Posts and maintains student contact hours; Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and teaching practices.
DEPARTMENT: Attends/leads ESL department meetings; In collaboration with the Dean, develops the ESL class schedule; Supports and collaborates with full time and part time ESL faculty; Participates in ongoing professional development and seeks funding to attend conferences; Stays current with ESL student materials, including free online resources, and communicates with ESL publishers; In collaboration with appropriate manager, oversees ESL outreach efforts, including the work of ESL Program Specialists; Collaborates with educational and community partners, including the Mendocino-Lake Adult & Career Education (MLACE) and High School Equivalency Program (HEP); Participates in program and curriculum development, review, and revision; Develops and assesses student learning outcomes in the discipline; Participates in full-time and part-time faculty evaluations.
INSTITUTIONAL: Attends in-service days, commencements, and faculty meetings as scheduled; Completes required flex hours for professional development purposes; Serves on college committees; May supervise student workers in the discipline; Participates in the development of an annual budget for the discipline; Submits purchase orders and maintains related records; Participates in the completion of program review; Participates in the processes of shared governance; Secures and properly stores equipment assigned to the discipline; Conducts a periodic inventory of equipment; Participates in activities to create and promote career pathways, with special focus on noncredit student pathways.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Office and classroom settings.
This assignment may include day, evening, and weekend classes, online instruction, as well as travel to, and instruction at, off-campus centers.
Physical demands include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs).
QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.
