The elementary Para-educator may be required to assist in work areas including but not limited to classrooms, learning laboratories, resource centers and special day classrooms and assist in services including but not limited to counseling, guidance, after school programs, playground and cafeteria supervision, basic first aid, special needs students, 1;1 assistance and supervision, field trips and other related activities.
The Para Educator I will also communicate regularly with staff regarding student needs and performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience): · High School Education or Equivalent · Demonstrated proficiency in basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills, as required by EC 45344.

· AA Degree or higher; or 48 post high school units; or passage of NCLB Para Test ABILITY TO: · Interact effectively and positively with students; staff; parents and general public · Perform duties and show initiative with little or no supervision · Interpret and apply district/school rules and policies with good judgment · Effectively work in an atmosphere characterized by frequent changes · Maintain student confidentiality · Work as a team member with the teacher and other site personnel.
· Speak Spanish desirable ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE: 1.
Assist in preparation of instructional technology, classrooms and student areas for instructional use.
Prepare and sets out supplies, materials and equipment as needed.

Assist in supervision of student activities.
3.
Assist in correction of student work and keep student records of activities performed 4.
Assist in filing and cataloging materials.
5.
5.
Provide instructional and technological assistance to individual or small groups of students in core curricular areas 6.
Perform duties with students 1:1 under direction of Administrator, Teacher or ESS Director per IEP.
7.
Assist teacher with school-wide responsibilities.
8.
Assist site administrator in maintaining a safe school environment 9.
Assist with transition activities throughout the day; including but not limited to escorting students to and from buses, act as crossing guard.
10.
Supervise lunchroom activities and assist with cleanup between and after multiple lunch times 11.
Actively supervise playground activities.
12.
Assist instructional staff with supervision at special events and activities 13.
Participates in professional development trainings, such as restraint, interventions, CPR, First Aid and other activities as appropriate.
14.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned duties and responsibilities of this job description are the following essential physical requirements: 1 Seldom = Less than 25% 3 Often = 51-75% 2 Occasional = 25%-50% 4 Very Frequent = 76% and above 4 a.
Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter materials and observing students.

Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.

Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.

Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop, run and crawl.

Ability to reach in all directions.
