The position is defined as 15-17 hours per week.
This is a categorically funded part-time position.
Funding has been identified for 3 years.
We seek a candidate to commit to the program for the funding duration.
The Selected candidate will attend a mandatory training course June 10-14 in Berkeley, CA.
Cost of attendance will be covered by Mendocino College.

org ) is an academic, counseling, and mentoring program that has improved college persistence and success rates for thousands of California's educationally under-served students.

The Puente mission is to increase the number of community college students who: Transfer and enroll in four-year colleges and universities Earn college degrees Return to the community as mentors and leaders The Puente program at Mendocino College is a two-semester cohort program that is open to all students who are ready to enroll and who have not completed the Puente cohort courses.
Cohort classes will be offered primarily face-to-face on the Ukiah campus.
Space is limited to approximately 25 students per academic year.
Program enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
We will utilize waitlists for any additional interested students and provide referrals for additional college services available to students.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalSTRS Retirement REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The successful candidate will support student success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration.
This includes the following duties and/or assignments: Counselor Related Duties - Phases 1 & 2 : Within the cohort module: Identify Career Goals Develop short and long-term educational plans Provide academic, personal and career counseling Assist with four-year college/university applications Teach a personal development class each semester This class meets once a week in-person Is transfer applicable or applicable to the AA degree and Focuses on successful transfer process & strategies Match students with mentors from the local community Help build the educational support network, integrating the students' families into the program Student recruitment (identify and recruit) Presentations at classes, schools and student orientation groups Prospective student orientation, emphasis on student commitment ( extracurricular and mentor activities) Counselor Related Duties - Phases 3 & 4 : Hold individual & group meetings to facilitate transfer process Assisting with college applications Assisting with letters of recommendation Assisting with interviews Assisting with field trips Assisting with financial aid, scholarship and internship opportunities Continuous: Recruitment Program implementation Reporting Weekly team meetings Preparing students for Transfer Motivational Conference Collaboration on assignments Hosting community receptions, social/cultural events Team meetings with instructor/co-coordination Puente Coordination Duties: (Counselor & English Instructor Co-Coordinate): Puente mentor training linking local community & college campus (shared with English instructor) Mentor pool should be sufficiently diverse (gender, career interests, ethnic background) Plan and organize group mentoring activities (prior to student/mentor matching) Student recruitment and enrollment Introduce concept of Puente familias' and place students into familia groups for the rest of the term or academic years Facilitate discussion of group norms, communication, accountability, and boundaries Coordination of Mentor Activities (including but not limited to; field trips to campuses, museum visits, theater admission) $2000-5000 annually allotted for this.
QUALIFICATIONS QUALIFICATIONS Must meet all Minimum Qualifications Requirements for discipline applied for including: Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent: If meeting the state-mandated minimum qualifications based on equivalency, the link below will take you to Mendocino College's equivalency policy and form that must be filled out unsubmitted with your application packet.

ABILITY TO: Effectively instruct assigned courses using a variety of techniques and methods of delivery; evaluate and develop curriculum and instructional materials; assess student academic progress; maintain records; consistently communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the district; teach at variable locations and hours, including evenings, weekends and online.
