*About The Department* Created in 1996, the department supports approximately 250 tribal members and residents and serves a daily service population of approximately 1000 people that visit the casino, gas station, hotel, and reservation.
The department operates under a community-oriented policing philosophy that centers on the Tribal community.
*Job Summary* The CVPD is seeking an Administrative Assistant to manage the front office and lobby area of the department and provide administrative support.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively manage public inquiries regarding the Police Department.
In addition to administrative and clerical duties, the Administrative Assistant will assist with duties related to the Coyote Valley Tribal Court as the Tribal Court Clerk.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities* * Manage the front office and lobby area of the Police Department, greet visitors, and answer phone calls.
* Provide administrative support, such as drafting correspondence, filing, and data entry.
* Respond to inquiries from the public and other departments, both in person and via phone and email.
* Assist with duties related to the Coyote Valley Tribal Court, including managing court dockets, scheduling hearings, and maintaining court records.
* Issues summons and subpoenas, certify copies of Court records, and serve as witness to Court activities.
* Perform general clerical duties, such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing documents.
* Assist with special projects and assignments as assigned by the Command Staff.
* Assist with department compliance with Tribal fiscal policies.
* Respond as needed in the event of disaster.
Assignments may not align with normal job duties.
* Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information and materials during and after employment.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties: * Participate in Tribal events, including non-profit events.
* Some travel is required to accomplish program and tribal goals and objectives.
* Available to work weekends and evenings if needed.
* Proficiency in computers and word processing software.
* Ability to accurately monitor and maintain records.
* Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
* Must always maintain professional behavior on and off duty.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: * Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
* Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations appropriately.
* Communicate verbally and write clearly and concisely.
* Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written correspondence.
* Must be able to resolve problems/conflicts diplomatically and tactfully without escalating public confrontation or disturbance.
* Ability to analyze situations and adopt practical courses of action.
* Speak with public as they request information from the department.
*Minimum Qualifications* To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following: * Candidates must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.
* Associate's degree in a related field or Four (4) years of full-time experience in an administrative support position.
* Felony convictions will be disqualifying.
* Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency.
*Desired Qualifications* * Two (2) years of full-time experience involving public contract in a legal environment.
* Possess a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in related field.
* Experience working with Tribal Communities.
* Knowledge of police methods and procedures, including police records and reports.
* Previous experience working in an office or administrative support role is preferred.

* Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
* Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
* Visual acuity to read and interpret documents and computer screens.
* Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
* Ability to hear and speak effectively to communicate with visitors, colleagues, and the public.
* Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
* This position may require exposure to moderate noise levels in a typical office setting.
*Work Environment* The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing this job's essential functions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
When on the casino floor, the noise levels increase to louder levels.
*Other* * Must pass pre-employment drug testing and a criminal background investigation.
* Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified member of the Coyote Valley of Pomo Indian Tribe or qualified Native American candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 2, U.
